Introduction to EMRT 2.0: Enhancing Transparency in Mineral Sourcing

The Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting landscape continues to evolve, driven by increasing demands for transparency and accountability in mineral sourcing. In response, the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) is releasing EMRT 2.0 in April 2025, which will introduce significant enhancements to the EMRT.

EMRT 2.0 will expand the scope of reportable minerals to include copper, graphite (natural), lithium, and nickel, in addition to the existing minerals (Mica & Cobalt). This expansion is designed to support companies' reporting requirements under the EU Battery Regulation, specifically for graphite, lithium, and nickel. Furthermore, the inclusion of copper will enhance RMI's ability to identify new facilities in these supply chains, promoting greater transparency and accountability. The updated EMRT 2.0 template will also feature an optional mine-level facility tab, providing companies with the flexibility to disclose more detailed information about their mineral sourcing practices.

This book provides a comprehensive guide to EMRT 2.0, covering the key changes, implications, and benefits of the updated template. Whether you are a supply chain professional, a legal expert, or a sustainability leader, this book aims to equip you with the knowledge and insights necessary to navigate the evolving ESG reporting landscape, ensure compliance with EU Battery Regulations, and promote responsible mineral sourcing practices.
